Directions for Timeline:
Animal Farm/Russian Revolution Timeline Project—200 points!
DUE MONDAY, FEBRUARY 28th
Assignment:
Your goal is to create a comprehensive timeline, in which you plot the key events of Animal Farm and the key events of the Russian Revolution. You will create two timelines, and put them on one poster. Please include the following for each timeline:
Content:
- Animal Farm timeline:
- 10 events from the book. Each event should be labeled on your timeline with the name of the event, and the time/month/season when it happened.
- For each event, write a one sentence summary of what happened in the event. (CD)
- Then, write one sentence explaining how this event impacted the book as a whole. (CM)
Old Major’s speech
Early March
|
Old Major delivers an inspiring speech
to all of the animals on the farm.
This is important because without this speech, the animals would not have the inspiration to
start the rebellion.
- Russian Revolution timeline:
- Pick 10 events from the Russian Revolution. Each event should be labeled on your timeline with the name of the event, and the date or month or year (as much as you know) of when it happened.
- For each event, write a one sentence summary of what happened. (CD)
- Then, write one sentence explaining how this event impacted the Revolution as a whole. (CM)
Bloody Sunday
January 22, 1905
|
200,000 workers went to the Winter Palace asking for better working conditions, and soldiers fired on them, killing or wounding thousands.
This is important because it inspired the citizens to demand rights, and forced the czar to finally listen to his citizens.
3. Connections
a. Connect five events in Animal Farm to five events in the Russian Revolution. You must create a symbol that represents the event in Animal Farm to the corresponding (matching) event in the Russian Revolution. For example, the dogs executing the animals in Animal Farm can be connected to the Great Purge in Russia; you could show this correlation using a row of Wanted signs. This symbolizes that anyone who went against Napoleon on the farm, or Stalin in real life, was considered a “wanted” criminal.
4. Illustrations
Choose any five events to illustrate. They can be from either timeline.
5. Format:
Make sure that your timelines are legible, clear, and organized. You may want to type the CDs and CMs to make a neater poster. Check carefully for spelling.
Checklist as you go:
___ 10 events from Animal Farm + CD and CM for each event
___ 10 events from RR + CD and CM for each event
___ at least 5 connections between AF and RR
___ 5 illustrations of events (5 total, taken from either timeline)
